Whiskey leads quite well with halter and
lead or with a piece of baling twine, or even with just a finger under his
chin. We've only had to trailer him a few times since we rescued him, but
each time he just walked into the trailer. We have a stock trailer,
so don't know how he would do in a little two horse. We've put him in a
3 horse slant with no hesitation on his part.
Whiskey is up to date on his shots, worming, and farrier care. We will
have his coggins drawn before he is placed - haven't drawn it yet this year
since he doesn't leave the property. Whiskey does not need to be shod as he
has very good feet and legs, so we just keep him trimmed (usually every eight
weeks, sometimes 10 weeks before he grows out enough to be trimmed.) He is
healthy and has not had any illnesses or injuries.
Whiskey is a very quiet horse. He likes to be a companion.
There is no fight or aggressiveness in this kind old soul. He walks away
from conflict among other horses. He's also an extremely easy keeper that
maintains his weight well on just grass or hay. We grain him infrequently
just to give him a treat. He's easy to worm and vet and stands for the
farrier without a halter or lead. He's easy to catch and halter. He
does ground drive and is saddle broke. We would not say he is rideable any
more. We made him a promise when we rescued him that we would never ask him
to be ridden again. From what we were told of his past, he was sorely
treated at the lesson barn he was at and totally soured on humans and
riding. I have rehabilitated him and he now loves to be groomed, loved on,
and just being a companion. He is worried with small
children coming into his pen without an adult with them. He will just
stand stock still and tremble until an adult removes the toddler. He's
fine with children above 7 or 8 yrs old.
We hope this gives you some insight on Whiskey. We are looking for a
permanent placement for him where he can continue to live out his days in peace,
with a lot of love and kindness. If you think Whiskey is a horse you would
like to add to your family, please feel free to contact us at info@nikiavalley.com
