Sport, or Work. Nikia Valley breeds horses with solid gentle
temperaments, physical substance, heart, intelligence, and
conformation. We train our horses in solid basics and manners.
Most
of our babies are imprinted at birth and all are handled multiple times
per day...cleaning feet, blanketing, feeding, stalling, haltering,
leading, grooming and playing. Our young horses are ponied and trained
in ground work until the age of two. At one year they have worn a
saddle and bit for a half hour. At two (actual 2nd birthday) they get
30 hours of saddle training at the walk, trot, back, side pass and then
are left alone. Between 32 - 48 months, depending on their mental
maturity, they start serious saddle training. Each horse is trained
first for equitation, trail riding and packing children. We then
evaluate the horse for it's disposition toward a particular riding
discipline to develop a training program to bring out the potential of
the horse.
